Getting started

How does ClipCut work?

Paste a YouTube URL or upload a long video file (up to 20GB). The AI analyzes the entire video, identifies the moments most likely to perform on short-form (hook strength, emotional peaks, pacing changes, retention curves), then automatically reframes to vertical 9:16, adds animated captions, and exports clips ready for TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Total time for a 60-minute source: 2 to 3 minutes.

What video sources does ClipCut support?

Direct YouTube URLs (videos and livestreams), MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and most common formats up to 20GB per file. Twitch VODs and Vimeo URLs are also supported. For paid users, you can also bulk-upload entire podcast back-catalogs to process at once.

Do I need editing experience to use ClipCut?

No. The whole point of ClipCut is removing the editing step. The AI handles clip selection, vertical reframing, captions, and exports. You don't touch a timeline. If you can paste a URL and click a button, you can use ClipCut.

How long does processing take?

About 1 minute of processing per 20 minutes of source video on the standard tier. A 60-minute podcast typically returns 5 to 10 captioned vertical clips in 2 to 3 minutes. Pro plan users get priority processing during peak hours.

Free trial and pricing

Is there a free trial?

Yes. 30 credits, 7-day window, no credit card required. The trial uses the same full-power AI infrastructure paying users get, so the output reflects exactly what you'd get on a paid plan. Trial output has a watermark; paid plans (from $9/month annual) remove it.

What does each credit cover?

1 credit covers 1 minute of source video processed (not output minutes). A 10-minute podcast = 10 credits, regardless of how many short clips ClipCut generates from it. The AI typically returns 5 to 10 clips per long source.

How do I earn extra free credits?

Link your social channels (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, Discord) inside the app. Each linked channel adds 5 credits to your trial, up to 25 bonus credits total (so a max of 55 free credits with all 5 channels linked).

What are the paid plans?

Creator at $9/month annual ($15 monthly): 250 credits/month, 1080p export. Clipper at $15/month annual: 600 credits/month, advanced processing. Pro at $30/month annual: 1,200 credits/month, 4K export, priority queue. All plans include unlimited storage during your active subscription.

Do credits roll over month to month?

Monthly subscribers: credits reset at the end of your billing cycle. Yearly subscribers: you receive your full 12 months of credits upfront, so you can batch-process a quarter of content in a single sitting if you want to. Unused credits don't roll over to a new billing year.

Output quality and features

Does ClipCut watermark the output?

Free trial output includes a small ClipCut watermark. All paid plans (Creator, Clipper, Pro from $9/month annual) remove the watermark on every clip. The trial watermark is intentional: it lets us run the trial without overloading server capacity for paying users while still giving you the full AI quality experience.

What export resolutions are supported?

Free trial and Creator/Clipper plans export at 1080p, which matches what TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts compress to anyway. Pro plan ($30/month annual) unlocks 4K export for archival or distribution to platforms that show 4K natively.

How accurate are the auto-captions?

Captions are generated from a fine-tuned transcription model and typically hit 95%+ accuracy on clear English audio. Heavy accents, multi-speaker overlapping dialogue, or poor audio quality drop accuracy. You can edit captions inside the dashboard before downloading.

Does ClipCut do active speaker tracking?

Yes. The AI detects who's speaking at any moment and reframes the vertical crop to keep the active speaker centered. Works automatically on multi-person podcasts, panel discussions, and interviews.

What is the Virality Score?

Each generated clip gets a 0 to 100 score based on hook strength, emotional peak intensity, pacing changes, and retention-curve modeling. Higher score = higher predicted viral potential. Use it to decide which clips to post first or to prioritize for cross-platform distribution.

Subscription and billing

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the customer portal under 'Manage my subscription' in your account settings. One click to cancel. Your plan stays active until the end of your current billing period; you keep all credits and features until then. No retention forms, no hoops.

Can I upgrade or downgrade plans anytime?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and you're prorated. Downgrades take effect at the end of your billing cycle so you don't lose paid credits. Change tiers anytime through the customer portal.

Do you offer refunds?

ClipCut has powered thousands of clips since launch, and we're trusted by a community of over 39,000 content creators and studios who rely on the product every day. Because of that track record, paid plans are final and non-refundable. If you hit a genuine billing error or the product fails to work as described, email support@clipcut.pro and we'll make it right.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay, and Link via our Stripe checkout. Payment methods are picked automatically based on your region and device.

Are yearly plans really 50% cheaper?

Yes. Annual billing locks in roughly 40-50% off the monthly equivalent. Creator at $9/month annual = $108/year. Same plan monthly is $15/month = $180/year. Net annual savings: $72.

Comparison with other tools

How does ClipCut compare to CapCut?

CapCut is a manual mobile editor, not an AI clipper. You scrub through long videos and cut clips by hand. ClipCut is purpose-built for AI viral clipping: paste URL, AI finds the moments, get clips. CapCut is great for original mobile content; ClipCut is faster for repurposing long-form. Full breakdown: clipcut.pro/blog/clipcut-vs-capcut.

How does ClipCut compare to Opus Clip?

Both are AI clippers with similar workflows. ClipCut is cheaper ($9 vs $15/month for the entry tier), simpler (no B-roll generator or scheduler to configure), and the free trial keeps clips for 7 days vs Opus Clip's 3-day cliff. Opus wins on multilingual support and integrated publishing pipeline. Full comparison: clipcut.pro/blog/clipcut-vs-opus-clips.

What's the best AI clipper for podcasters?

ClipCut is built for talking-head and podcast content specifically. The active-speaker tracking handles multi-host setups well, and the viral detection is tuned for emotional peaks in conversation rather than narrative arcs. Most podcasters land here after testing 2-3 alternatives.

Account and support

Where can I get help?

Email support@clipcut.pro for any account, billing, or technical question. Creator and Clipper plans get standard email support; Pro plan gets 24/7 priority support. We also have an active Discord community for peer help and feature discussions.

Where are my clips stored?

Clips are stored in your ClipCut dashboard for the duration of your active subscription. Free trial clips are retained for 7 days. If you cancel, clips are retained for the duration of your current plan's storage window before being removed. Export anything you want to keep during that window.

Is my video data private?

Yes. Source videos and generated clips are stored encrypted and only accessible to your account. We don't train AI models on customer content. We don't share data with third parties beyond essential infrastructure providers (Stripe for payments, AWS for storage, Vercel for hosting).

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Email support@clipcut.pro to request deletion. We'll wipe all stored clips and source videos within 30 days, keeping only the minimum billing records required by law.
